She Who Borne The Battle
She put her boots on just like her brothers did, it was her dream to serve since was just a kid. She went through basic, treated just like all the men and every time they knocked her down, she got right back up again.
She didn't want no special treatment, she didn't want a helping hand, she wanted to defend this land…
And it's she who borne the battle, she who fought the war.
And we must join together to even out the score.
After the army, she went on to the marines, her discipline and drive were unlike anyone had seen. 8 tours in Afghanistan, Somalia and Iraq, 15yrs went by and she decided to come back,
She served her unit, corps and country and though she saw so many die, she never lost her sense of pride...
She's got a fight inside her soul, she's gotta fit into that mold of what it means to be a soldier, that's what everybody told her. "Take it like a man" or pack your bags fast as you can, this is the army Mrs. Jones!
She came back home and gave it all, we gave our thanks, but gratitude don't feed the kids or put money in the bank. A single mom, waiting in line at the VA, she couldn't prove her trauma happened, so she was turned away.
These were the brothers that she trusted…protected by her fear,
It happened there, but she is here.
And it's she who borne the battle, she who fought the war.
And we must join together to even out the score.
