I Know What It's Like To Be Happy

I woke up last night and I wanted to write a song,

But the tune had no words and the melody seemed all wrong.

My creative supply was feeling awfully dry, 

Still I began and soon the pen led my hand along.

When life is right, then I know what it’s like to be happy.

Now there’s someone I like and I know she’s just right for me.

But when I get close, I don’t know who I’m supposed to be.

I try to relax and just stick to the facts,

And though I sound absurd, she delights in each word I speak.

When life is right, then I know what it’s like to be happy.

Even as life is handin’ out love, it’s easy to be afraid.

You’re nervous because there’s nothin’ you’ve done,

And all that you’ve won might slip away.

So, whenever I feel like my energy’s really low,

And all my desire is entirely just for show.

It don’t get me down, cause right under my frown 

is a melody’s words or a smile from a girl I wanna know.

When life is right, then I know what it’s like to be happy.
